There is growing evidence that surgery for weight loss can be effective in the long run for many people. It is important to eat throughout the day while on a diet. Starving yourself will lead you to making poor food choices and overindulging at your next meal. You may feel tempted to skip meals, but don’t. This will just sabotage your weight loss program.
A good food item to eat is mashed potatoes using cauliflower substitute for those that love potatoes. Simply cook cauliflower florets in a covered pot with a bit of water and chopped onion until tender, then puree it while hot with vegetable or chicken bouillon and freshly-ground pepper to taste. This can make a great side dish with plenty of nutrition and a fraction of the calories and carbs of mashed potatoes.
Ditch the egg yokes if you want to lose weight. Although the yolk has some healthy nutrients it does contain lots of cholesterol and fat which is not something you want in a healthy diet. Consuming egg whites provides you with lots of high quality protein.
Just about everyone loves eating french fries. They’ve gotten in the way of many people’s weight loss goals. Try baking your french fries to continue with your weight loss. Steamed vegetables are higher in nutrients and usually much tastier than vegetables cooked any other way. Use a spatula to loosen them, turn them over and let them bake for approximately 10 minutes. They’re really delicious with ketchup, a lot lower in calories and you’ll never miss the deep frying. Thanks to Laurel’s Kitchen cookbook for these “French Bakes”!
Be sure to keep track of your calories. Get a cheap spiral notebook. A food diary is what this notebook will be. Write down what foods you ate, how much you had, and the total number of calories you consumed. You can use this method to monitor what you are consuming and you will see how this is affecting your progress.
To reduce your weight, you should avoid eating right before going to bed. Food that you eat before bed is not used for energy. That becomes fat while you sleep. Make sure you eat at least several hours before bed.

A few patients run the risk of developing a nutritional deficiency, and there is an increased chance of gallstones. Maintaining a balanced diet and participating in exercise are essential parts of a healthy, post-operative lifestyle.
